If you're considering facial implant surgery in the San Francisco Bay Area...
Because many of the incisions in facial implant surgery are made inside the
mouth, it is important to inform Dr. Mosser about whether you smoke or suffer
from gum disease. In addition, if you believe a facial
implant could improve
your appearance, it is a good idea to consider the following:
- Do you have any medical
conditions that could impair healing from facial implant surgery?
- Are you committed to
proper nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, including moderate amounts of physical
exercise?
- Can you fully disclose
your health history to Dr. Mosser, including current medications, your use
of vitamin and herbal supplements, as well as your use of alcohol, tobacco,
and other drugs?
In some facial implant surgeries only local anesthesia will be used;
in others, general anesthesia is required. Dr. Mosser will discuss this with
you well in advance of your cosmetic surgery. San Francisco has a number of
locations where Dr. Mosser works closely with board-certified
anesthesiologists
to find the best option for each patient and each procedure.
The length and complexity of a face implant surgery depends on the specific
procedure being performed. Here are the more common types of implants:
- Chin implant: A small incision is made inside your mouth along the lower
lip. The insert is placed in a pocket over the front of the jawbone.
- Cheek implants: Cheek implants are often performed alongside
other cosmetic surgery procedures, such as eyelid
surgery or a face lift. Otherwise, the
incision will be made inside your upper lip or on your lower eyelid. A pocket
is formed where the implant is precisely inserted.
- Lower jaw implant: Internal insertions are made on the
sides of the lower lip. A pocket is created where the jaw implant is inserted.
