If you're considering blepharoplasty in San Francisco ...

Post Blepharoplasty Recuperation

Immediately following blepharoplasty surgery, ointment and cold compresses may be applied. Your eyes may be loosely covered in gauze. Before you are released, Dr. Mosser will explain:

  • how to care and cleanse your eyes
  • medications to apply to your eyes or to take orally in order to reduce the risk of infection
  • how to monitor the surgical site for specific problems

You may experience some swelling and bruising around your eyes. There is a possibility of temporary dry eyes after blepharoplasty surgery. These can be controlled with medication, cold compresses, and ointment.

You will need to keep your head elevated at all times until the swelling has diminished. You should count on wearing sunglasses outdoors during the initial healing process; not only will they protect you from sunlight, but also from blowing dust and debris. You can return to most normal activities within several days of blepharoplasty surgery.

Healing will take five to ten days, after which sutures, if any, will be removed. At this time you can resume wearing contact lenses if you have them and can easily return to work.

Results—the Amazing New You

After several weeks you will begin to see the final results of your blepharoplasty surgery. It may take a full year for your incision lines to fully refine, though they won’t be readily noticeable even weeks after surgery. Though your eyelids will continue to age naturally, their youthful and vital appearance can be maintained for many years after blepharoplasty surgery with diligent use of sunglasses and sunscreen. And at any time after your blepharoplasty surgery, you can address your questions to Dr. Mosser at any of his San Francisco facial plastic surgery clinics.
